Corporate Social Investment

DUO Marketing + Communications has been involved with Heaven’s Nest since the beginning of 2007, and we have adopted the home as our primary social investment initiative.

Heaven’s Nest, a children’s centre situated in Ottery, was opened in 2004 and is run by the task team of St Francis of Strandfontein. Their mission is to be a safe place of care and nurturing for some of the projected millions of orphans to emerge from the HIV/AIDS pandemic and other “children in need”.

Why Heaven’s Nest?

To give back to the communities in which we operate through investment and the upliftment of children affected by HIV and AIDS through shelter, feeding schemes, self help schemes, welfare, parent support groups, relief programmes, cultural and theatrical projects and environmental programmes.

DUO Marketing would like to raise the awareness of Heaven’s Nest, and the valuable work they do, in the minds and hearts of those with whom we deal thereby encouraging the ongoing support and sustainability of this organisation.

DUO Marketing + Communications has partnered with the GROW Academy, an initiative started by WooThemes, RLabs, Silulo, Webgrowth and the GivenGain Foundation South Africa to develop digital literacy

GROW Academy provides school leavers and the unemployed  with training in ICT skills such as web development, social media, SEO and online fundraising. The goal is to channel graduates into apprenticeships at non-profit organisations. There after, successful apprentices will be introduced to internship opportunities in the corporate or government sector, where they can seek long term employment. The founders of the GROW Academy have a vision for job creation through stimulating new job types, in the form of the ‘digital artisan’.

GROW Academy

Why GROW Academy?

As a PR partner for ICT companies, we are proud to commit to supporting an initiative that helps provide skills for our  industry. It is inspiring to see the commitment the graduates have for their future as they recognise that they can bring a necessary skill to the work place. This initiative is committed to helping the youth involved with the project gain skills and a greater sense of self-worth.

Using our skills in communications, DUO Marketing is helping to build awareness of this initiative, which will hopefully result in support and funding for the GROW Academy, as well as internship opportunities.

The Santa Shoebox Project is a non-profit organization that collects gifts at Christmas time for the socially underprivileged children throughout South Africa, by way of a social and community network of families, friends, schools and churches.

Established in 2006, it is an initiative of the Kidz2Kidz Trust, a registered Public Benefit Organization (PBO number 930031301 – Public Benefits Organization Kidz2Kidz Trust), that offers assistance to children in need.

Why Santa Shoebox?

The Santa Shoebox Project is instrumental in involving people from all walks of life, especially children together with their parents, in giving to children from a distinctly vulnerable social background who may never have received a Christmas gift before.

In essence it is therefore also about children learning the joy of giving, by personally choosing and filling the gift boxes, and then decorating and labelling each with the recipient’s name.
