It was a great honour to be part of a recent Amazon donation of 75 Kindle devices and over R25,000 in content gift cards to Harold Cressy High School, located across the street from Amazon’s customer service centre in Cape Town. The donation was intended to enhance the school’s literacy drive and help foster the use of technology in the classroom by learners from Grade 8 to 12.
Harold Cressy High School supports over 700 learners from diverse backgrounds and cultures in the Cape. The school is renowned for its academic results, despite the challenges these teachers and learners face, such as coming from homes without electricity or running water. The teachers and staff provide a safe haven for optimum learning and development of these youths, 70 percent of whom commute from the outlying areas such as Mitchell’s Plain, Khayelitsha and Nyanga each day in the hope of better education.
DUO’s role was to facilitate the event including:
Inviting keynote speakers and media
Co-ordinating press interviews with the USA and local Amazon representatives
Writing press announcements
Ensuring media coverage
Producing a video of the event
Co-ordinating the photography
