Employees from each of the companies spent Mandela Day with the children of Heaven’s Nest, doing various activities such as reading, painting, gardening, playing fun games, hosting a mini-Olympics and presented the children with clothing, stationery, party packs and blankets.
‘The day was full of excitement, and the children enjoyed all the fun activities and were very pleased about the gifts they received’ says Eleanor Bester, project manager at Heaven’s Nest.
What stood out to our DUO team who visited Heaven’s Nest was the incredible sense of joy among the children, and the amazing women who work there and dedicate their lives to what Nelson Mandela stood for, who should also be recognised for the great role they play in the children’s lives.
Heaven’s Nest cares for over 15 children between the ages of 2 and 9 years who are infected or affected by HIV and AIDS, as well as children who have been abandoned, abused or neglected. The home looks after the kids until they can be placed back with family members, or with foster parents.
Heaven’s Nest always welcomes donations such as diapers, children’s clothes, reading books, fruit and vegetables and general household items.
